Maurice Rea Davie was born in Toronto, Canada on January 22, 1893. He received his A.B. (1915), A.M. (1917), and Ph.D. (1918) from Yale University. Davie was a member of the sociology department at Yale from 1921 until his death in November 1964. Among his areas of speciality were child welfare, immigration, and William Graham Sumner.
